CommSec’s systems utilise a variety of technologies and support a broad range of investors. Software engineers within CommSec are offered regular opportunities to work on some of the finest IT systems in Australia, as well as having opportunity to develop careers across different functions and teams within the wider Bank.
As a Staff Software Engineer within CommSec, you will be a contributing to CommSec’s technology stack and instrumental to shaping the technical capabilities of CommSec’s products and digital experience to delight our customers as well are uplifting engineers around you. With your rich blend of skillsets you will contribute to the systems end-to-end as well as manage risk with safe deployments and automated testing.

Have the experience to confidently manage risk through robust system designs, test automation and communication with stakeholders

Constantly think outside the box and break boundaries to solve complex problems
Are able to utilise strong understanding of core business and technical strategies to deliver best business outcomes through technical implementation
Are enthusiastic about leading and championing strategic practice development within team or platform

Can work closely with business analysts and product manager to understand business requirements and architects to understand (and where necessary contribute to) design
Can deliver secure and accessible customer focused solutions which cater for a range of investor needs
Have the ability to lead or coach/mentor others, proactively share knowledge, information, and solutions to problems
Be able to collaborate with broader team on how technology might improve the business outcome
Tech skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;
React experience including component architecture and lifecycle
Modern best practises with hooks and functional components
Typescript
State management – familiar with redux and context
UX – obsessed with user experience
Proficient in unit testing & automated testing
Experienced in web security
CSS, layouts, HTML & accessibility best practices
Component libraries – experience with MUI (highly regarded)
Understand front end build & design systems (highly regarded)
Web performance (highly regarded)
Jest, Playwright, Cypress (highly regarded)
